CAGCR Writer-in-Residence (spring 2026) Dr Mithu Sanyal

The Centre for Anglo-German Cultural Relations (CAGCR) at QMUL, housed in the Department of Modern Languages and Comparative Literature (MLCL), welcomes a Writer in Residence at least once a year. This semester’s Writer in Residence, Dr Mithu Sanyal, will be joining us for 10 weeks from 9 February.

Mithu Sanyal is a writer, cultural scholar and journalist based in Germany. She works across fiction, cultural criticism and public debate, and is known for addressing complex social issues in an accessible and engaging way. Her writing focuses on questions of identity, race, gender, postcolonialism and contemporary politics.

She is the author of several influential non-fiction books as well as the novels Identitti (2021), which was shortlisted for the German Book Prize and sparked wide public discussion about belonging, representation and power in contemporary society, and Antichristie (2024), also nominated for the German Book Prize that dealt with colonialism and anticolonial resistance. Alongside her literary work, she regularly contributes essays, commentaries and broadcasts to major German and international media and appears at festivals, readings and public events.
