Dr Elsa Petit participates in 'Le français, langue d’avenir' conference
On 16th June 2026, Dr Elsa Petit, Senior Lecturer in French Language Studies, took part in a conference on “Le français, langue d’avenir”, hosted by the University of Surrey. This was an in-person event in Guildford organised jointly by colleagues from the School of Literature and Languages in UoS, the French Embassy in the UK, and the Institut français du Royaume-Uni.

This third edition of the regional forum brought together colleagues from across secondary & Higher Education, alongside institutional partners, to reflect on the future of French & Francophone Studies in the UK.
With key themes including teacher development, employability through Francophonie & mobility and international exchanges, the day was rich in discussion, insight & collaboration.
Dr Patrick Nédellec, scientific adviser in the French Embassy in the UK, et Anne-Lise Gallay, French language attachée in the Cooperation, Education & Language Department in the French Embassy in the UK & the French Institute in London, gave encouraging introductory speeches about how the French Embassy and French Institute can support the promotion of French.
Dr Petit contributed to the roundtable discussion on the Future of French. She engaged with teachers, advisers, students & fellow academics on how we can continue to promote & sustain the study of French in an evolving educational landscape.
