Prof. Armstrong participated in the 'Creative Translation in the Age of AI' conference, UEA

Prof. Armstrong gave a paper at a conference on 'Creative Translation in the Age of AI' that took place at the University of East Anglia 28th-29th May.

The conference 'focused on the human creativity that is resistant to the rise of AI – on the extent to which the literary translator can be considered an original author, how creativity and experimentation can be cultivated in the classroom, how a translator’s creativity might need to be constrained and how it thrives on constraints'.

Prof. Adrian Armstrong reports: 'Some incredible papers and sessions, and deeply enriching discussions with researchers and translators across a wide range of topics and perspectives. I'm grateful to have been able to contribute, with an experimental translation of a poem by the 12th-century Occitan troubadour Arnaut Daniel. Now itching to do more of this...'
