Academic support
We understand that studying the arts, whether in literature, theatre, languages, linguistics, or film, can be both exciting and demanding. At the School of the Arts, we’re committed to supporting you academically, and socially throughout your time with us.
Student Support Officers
Every undergraduate and postgraduate student in the School of the Arts has access to a dedicated Student Support Officer. These trained professionals offer a confidential and welcoming space where you can talk through personal, academic, or wellbeing concerns.
They provide weekly one-to-one sessions and group workshops covering topics from time management and stress to coping with creative pressure. Whether you're struggling with a deadline or adjusting to university life, they are here for you.
Academic Support: Module Tutors
Our academic staff are not only experts in their fields but also approachable and supportive mentors. If you have questions about your coursework, feedback, or studying strategies, your module tutors are your first port of call.
They hold weekly office hours and encourage open communication. You’re never alone in your academic journey.
Peer Mentoring and Buddy Scheme
Starting university can feel daunting, but you’re not alone. Queen Mary’s Buddy Scheme connects you with trained student mentors who can help you settle in, make friends, and navigate student life in your first months here.
They understand what you're going through because they’ve been there too.
Student Wellbeing Services
The Student Wellbeing Hub provides specialist, confidential support for mental health, counselling, disability and dyslexia services, and more. Whether you need a one-off chat or ongoing support, help is available.
Scholarships and Bursaries
We offer a range of scholarships and bursaries for students in the School of the Arts, rewarding academic excellence and contribution to the school community. Financial support is also available for those facing unexpected hardship.
