English

Our fresh, inclusive English courses champion diverse voices across cultures, periods, and media - broadening horizons and opening doors to exciting careers.

Taking an English degree at Queen Mary encourages you to read in exciting new ways. You’ll become a more thoughtful, thorough, and active reader, someone who thinks intelligently about both the ways writers have chosen to represent the world, and our own role as literary critics in reading, interpreting, and engaging with their work.

You will also become a better writer, someone who can develop unusual insights into familiar texts, challenge your own and other people’s preconceptions and articulate your ideas clearly and forcefully. The core skills in analysis, criticism, and written expression you develop on this course will make you highly attractive to a range of employers, particularly those who prioritise strong communication and creative thinking.
