Linguistics

Curious about evolution, history and structure of human language? Our courses' diversity gives you the flexibility to study the topics that excite you.

Language structures human life — communicating, thinking and reasoning, building social relations, and passing on ideas and discoveries to future generations. Linguistics is the study of this unique human ability. How language works and how we use it is key to understanding today’s world. You’ll use language and data skills in many of the highest recruiting careers. The study of human language attracts students with A-Levels in English, Psychology, Languages, Maths, Sociology, Sciences, and many more.

At Queen Mary, we’ll provide fascinating research insights into the nature of language and the mind, the role it plays in shaping our identity and interaction, how it relates to the world of AI, and its importance for social justice.
