Professor Laura Green is Professor of Haemostasis and Transfusion Medicine at the Blizard Institute, Queen Mary University of London, and a Consultant Haematologist and Principal Investigator at NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT). She also serves as Associate Medical Director for Research and Development and Quality Improvement, and Co-Director of the NHSBT Clinical Trials Unit.

 

Professor Green completed her specialist training in Haematology at King’s College Hospital in 2004. Between 2009 and 2011, she undertook research in haemostasis and thrombosis at University College London, leading to an MD(Res). She was appointed Consultant in Haemostasis and Transfusion Medicine in 2011, jointly at NHSBT and Barts Health NHS Trust. In 2020, she became a Principal Investigator at NHSBT, leading clinical research in blood components, and in 2024 was appointed Professor of Haemostasis and Transfusion Medicine at Queen Mary University of London

Research

Research Interests:

Professor Green leads the Transfusion Academic Unit at the Blizard Institute, QMUL, which aims to drive clinical research in haemostasis and transfusion medicine. Her research focuses on improving and developing blood components for the treatment of bleeding disorders (e.g. trauma and surgery), bringing together laboratory services and clinical research across NHS Blood and Transplant, Barts Health NHS Trust and QMUL.

She has led several major studies that have advanced transfusion practice and patient management, including the ORANGE study, the PROPHESY-2 and SWiFT trials, and the Health Economic evaluation of bedside electronic transfusion system.
