PPI Support Service for your research
What is this service?
The TB Centre at Queen Mary University of London provides flexible Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) support for TB research being conducted by other universities and Pharma. Our panel, made up of people with lived TB experience and strong PPI expertise, helps strengthen proposals and ensure research reflects community priorities. The peer review panel is supported by Patience Renias-Zuva a PPI expert with lived experience of TB and a PPI manager at the UCL Biomedical Research Centre (BRC).
What support do you offer?
We offer a scalable range of input, including:
- Peer review of grant proposals prior to submission (minimum offer)
- Input on study design
- Acting as co-applicants on grant applications
- Review and co-development of patient-facing documents and lay summaries
- Recruitment advice and help with developing recruitment approaches
- Participation in steering groups
- Support with dissemination and community engagement
You can request one element or a full support package.
Who can request support?
We welcome requests from:
- UK and international researchers
- Clinical, social science, and public health researchers
- Lab-based researchers
- Industry researchers working on TB-related projects
Who is on the panel?
Our panel consists of members with lived TB experience from diverse backgrounds and from both high- and low-burden TB settings. Roles such as chairing and minute-taking rotate to promote shared leadership.
How much does it cost?
Costs vary and are provided on application:
As a guide:
- Early-stage proposal reviews typically involve 5–10 person-hours
- A full panel review requires at least 10 person-hours, plus admin fees
How quickly can you respond?
Please contact us with a minimum of 2 weeks’ notice before your deadline.
Typical turnaround for proposal review is 1–2 weeks, with timelines for broader involvement agreed case by case. We treat all proposals and documents as confidential and store them securely.
Can I attend the panel session?
Yes. Let us know if you would like to attend the session to:
- Present your project, and
- Take part in a short Q&A with the panel
Attendance is optional but often helpful.
