CCLS Alumnus Started a New Role at Harbour Energy as a Privacy Lawyer and Analyst
Souptik shares his career journey and what led to this appointment.

Souptik Mukherjee (Technology, Media & Telecommunications Law LLM, 2025) has carved a niche for himself at the intersection of law, emerging technologies, and global data privacy. After qualifying as an Attorney/Solicitor in India in 2022, Souptik began advising clients on Commercial and IP litigation, eventually managing a high-stakes cyber intrusion case.
Most recently, he joined Harbour Energy - the UK’s largest independent oil and gas company as a Privacy Lawyer and Analyst. In this new role, he supports the global privacy program and advises on issues spanning cybersecurity, privacy and AI. He also worked as a Data Protection Analyst at the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS), the UK’s statutory financial compensation body, where he managed and led privacy governance initiatives.
Alongside his public sector experience, Souptik has also made a strong mark in the media and entertainment industry. As Associate Legal Counsel at Hyperlink Brand Solutions, he negotiated IP licensing deals exceeding £500,000, built end-to-end privacy frameworks, and handled complex media contracts.
Reflecting on his journey, Souptik shares that his time at Queen Mary University of London has been intellectually formative. It’s deepened his ability to navigate the evolving legal landscape of AI and data governance, particularly understanding how emerging technologies like AI impact privacy, helping him engage more confidently with issues like international data transfers, responsible use of personal data, and building trust in digital systems.
For Souptik, transformation is not merely regulatory, it’s deeply human. For him, Privacy isn’t just about compliance, it’s about empowering people with confidence in how their data is used; something he is committed to advancing in his new role.
