Why did you choose to study at CCLS?

I considered several factors, key among them the recognition of the Banking and Finance Law LLM as one of the best finance-oriented LLM courses in Europe.

What is your favourite memory of being a CCLS student?

Studying an intellectually stimulating area where law meets finance and politics: sovereign debt financing and restructuring. I really enjoyed Sovereign Debt Restructuring, which explored the history and workouts of such crises globally. Attending a series of lectures on the Eurozone debt crisis by the living legend of sovereign debt workouts, Lee Buchheit, remains a highlight.

What does being a member of the CCLS community mean to you?

My relationship with CCLS evolved after graduation. Through the CCLS UK Alumni Committee, I have seen firsthand how the UK Chapter brings together different year groups and specialisms. Today, I continue this connection by occasionally mentoring current LLM students.

How did your CCLS experience contribute to your career?

It was the bridge between theory and the London market. The LLM helped me secure roles as a financial regulatory consultant with ACA Group and Cosegic, before transitioning in-house to Revolut. There, I led the Wealth & Trading Legal team before stepping into the role of Head of Legal, Greece.

This experience also supported me in building the balanced skillset needed to efficiently navigate legislation that is key to one’s area of specialisation, whilst maintaining a holistic overview of legal developments.

Strategic modules, such as Regulation of Financial Markets, equipped me to demonstrate the driving forces behind regulatory initiatives to colleagues and clients alike. Specialised modules, such as Securities Regulation, allowed for a deep dive into MiFID II, AIFMD and MAR, providing the technical and critical analysis needed to advise regulated firms.

Why do you think prospective students should study at CCLS?

CCLS has a great reputation in the legal industry, both in the UK and overseas. Especially for students who plan to pursue a career in London further to their studies, CCLS offers an incredible location in Holborn, London’s legal hub, where a wide variety of academic and professional events take place throughout the year.
