Energy Disputes in the Renewable Sector.

Renewable energy capacity has expanded considerably in recent years and is set to accelerate, driven by geopolitical concerns about security of domestic energy supply and climate change commitments. Disputes along the entire supply chain and throughout the lifecycle of renewable energy projects are now very common.

This educational seminar examined the characteristics of renewable energy projects that give rise to disputes risks; the technical, commercial and policy context impacting these projects; and methods of dispute avoidance and management.

The event was an exclusive seminar arranged by the Centre for Commercial Studies at Queen Mary University of London in conjunction with Ashurst LLP. The seminar included three panel sessions over the course of half a day, and drinks followed.

This was a rare opportunity to hear directly from in-house counsel at leading renewables firms and their experienced experts about the causes of these disputes and how they try to resolve them in commercial practice. - Professor Peter Cameron FCIArb
