TotalEnergies is set to play a unique role in a US-brokered maritime border deal between Israel and Lebanon that should reduce the threat of conflict in the important East Mediterranean gas play, which Europe has identified as a viable alternative to Russian piped gas. However, Dr Tibisay Morgandi, Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in International Energy and Natural Resources Law at Queen Mary University of London, said: “Lebanon has given an IOC the power to negotiate Israel’s share of profits, without Lebanon’s involvement, even though this could come at a cost to Lebanon,”
