Title: Algorithmic regulation and the digital transformation of regulatory authorities
Abstract : Regulatory authorities (regulators) are implementing digital transformation initiatives to enhance their capabilities in areas like enforcement, reporting and disclosure. Many of these initiatives fall under the emerging concept of algorithmic regulation or automated systems that regulate a domain of activity through dynamic interaction with data. I will present findings and practical examples from a study with 19 regulators in the UK that informs on how algorithmic regulation has developed in action. I will also discuss broader themes on the regulation of data science and AI.
