Join us for a roundtable x art exhibition centred on immersive and embodied media, feminist materialism, and posthuman imaginaries.
Roundtable
We are delighted to announce Professor Nanna Verhoeff and Dr. Lucy Reynolds as speakers on our roundtable.
Nanna Verhoeff is professor of Screen Cultures & Society at the Department of Media and Culture Studies. She specialises in the analysis of emerging screen media, with a key interest in contemporary transformations in screen and interface cultures. Her current research focuses on the development of concepts and methods for the analysis of performative technologies, situated arts and media, and urban interfaces.
Lucy Reynolds is a reader at the University of Westminster's School of Arts. Her work as a researcher, curator, and artist focuses on questions of the moving image, feminism, political space and collective practice.
Exhibition
The exhibition will feature an exciting collection of works ranging from films, moving-image installations, virtual reality, mixed reality, and dance. Each art work creatively engages with the following concerns regarding the political and cultural conditions of the present, particularly the persistence of narratives of exceptionalism and self-sufficiency that underpin anthropocentric, colonialist, xenophobic, and nationalist discourses. Against this backdrop, we ask whether contemporary immersive and post-cinematic media can help us reimagine subjectivity as inherently plural, relational, and entangled.
