An insightful Taster Event for Year 12 and 13 students who are studying Computer Science, Mathematics, or Physics at A-level (or equivalent).
Join us for an exciting afternoon on Applied Artificial Intelligence (AI) at Queen Mary University of London. This is a fantastic opportunity to experience university-level study, meet inspiring staff and students, and discover life at Queen Mary as part of our inclusive and welcoming community.
Event Highlights
As part of the various sessions, you’ll take part in From Dickens to KPop: Teaching Computers to Speak. Modern AI tools such as ChatGPT use sophisticated algorithms known as Large Language Models (LLMs). During this session, we will explore how these models work and how their fundamental ideas are inspired by processes in the human brain. You will even help build a simple language model and teach it to “speak” by blending the works of Charles Dickens with KPop lyrics. We will then compare its performance with that of a room full of humans, before reflecting on how studying at Queen Mary can help you develop these kinds of skills further.
Here is what we have got planned for you:
- Hands-on taster lectures by our leading academics
- Practical tips on making the jump from A-Levels to undergraduate study
- Careers in Applied AI: discover where this degree can take you
- Meet current students and explore our campus and facilities
- Enjoy refreshments provided on the day
