DClin programmes
QMICA offers professional doctorates in Clinical Medicine (DClin(Med)) and Surgery (DClin(Surg)) comprising taught modules, 12-month clinical placement in NHS Trust and hospitals and a research project.
The taught modules in Phase 1 can be studied on campus, via distance learning or blended and has several tracks so you can select the relevant pathway.
The Phase 3 research project may be completed in your home country or in the UK.

Phase 1: Taught modules by distance learning, on campus or blended
All participants study 2 compulsory modules plus 8 modules from their chosen track. This phase can be studied over 1 year full-time or 2 years part-time. Track options reflect established areas of clinical and scientific practice. Depending on your chosen track, you can study on campus or online. Please see track option list below

In addition, all participants study 2 longitudinal modules worth 30 credits each:
- Compulsory module i: Research into Practice (30 credits)
- Compulsory module ii: Professional Studies (30 credits)
Clinical Placement in NHS Trust and hospitals for 12 months
Module: Applied Research I (90 credits)
- Audit / Quality Improvement / Service evaluation project and dissertation
Module: Applied Clinical I (60 credits)
- Reflective Clinical Portfolio based on clinical experience and clinical case write-ups suitable for publication in case reports journal
Module: Research II (30 credits)
- Practical introduction to clinical and basic research including formative assessment of project plan
Research Project in Home Country or UK
Module: Research III (180 credits)
- Clinical or basic research, assessed by dissertation and short viva
