Hong Kong and London arbitration centres celebrate their 40th anniversaries with seminar on insolvency and arbitration

The School of International Arbitration at Queen Mary University of London (the SIA) and the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC) hosted a special seminar on “Insolvency, Arbitration Agreements and Ongoing Arbitrations”.

The session explored the legal complexity of insolvency proceedings when they intersect with the enforceability of arbitration agreements, as well as the implications on ongoing arbitral proceedings in the context of cross-border insolvency regimes.

It was chaired by Professor Dr Maxi Scherer, featuring moderator Joanne Lau from HKIAC, and speakers Eva Sit SC and Richard Bamforth who offered valuable European and Asian perspectives on the topic.

The seminar was the third in a a series to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the two renowned institutions. The session was very well-attended, with 244 attendees dialling in from 32 different jurisdictions.
