Professor Elizabeth Gillow (16 May 1963 -19 March 2026)
Professor Elizabeth Gillow was a much-loved colleague in the Department of Law. She passed away on 19 March 2026.

Elizabeth grew up in Oxford, and began her legal career in 1991 with Field Fisher Waterhouse in London. She later practiced employment law in Birmingham, first at Wragge & Co and then Eversheds. She began her academic career as a Senior Lecturer at Staffordshire University in 2006, and joined Queen Mary in 2017.
Elizabeth was a delightful colleague, quick-witted and amusing. She was an outstanding teacher and taught on many modules within the Law Department, including Law in Context, Contract Law and Employment Law: Tribunal Practice and Procedure. She travelled widely to support and promote the Department and the University, and had many connections in Asia, running a widely esteemed programme bringing judges from Thailand to study at Queen Mary each year. Elizabeth was passionate about the development and education of undergraduate law students, supporting many advocacy and dispute resolution competitions.
Elizabeth was Deputy Dean for Education in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences from 2019-2022 and Dean for Education from 2023-2025.
Professor Elizabeth Gillow will be remembered for her contributions to the School of Law, leadership in education, and the friendship she brought to colleagues.
