Profile

Dr Canruh joined the School of Law in January 2026 as a Lecturer in Commercial Law (Teaching and Research). He teaches Company Law on the LLB and LLM programmes and is a member of the Management Board of the Queen Mary Legal Advice Centre.

Before joining Queen Mary, he was a Lecturer in Commercial Law at the University of Liverpool (2023-2026), where he taught a range of corporate law modules on the LLB and LLM, as well as Equity and Trusts on the LLB.

Dr Canruh completed his legal studies at Queen Mary. He holds an LLB (First Class Honours), and he received the Principal’s Prize for outstanding academic achievement. His undergraduate dissertation was awarded a mark of 95%. He completed his LLM with Distinction, after which he pursued a PhD. His PhD studies were fully funded by the QMUL Research Studentship. He also holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (Distinction), which he completed at the University of Liverpool. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a member of the Society of Legal Scholars.

His research interests lie in company law, with a particular focus on corporate personality, veil piercing, shareholders’ rights, and directors’ fiduciary obligations. His current work examines the circumstances in which the law disregards corporate personhood in order to attribute responsibility within and beyond corporate structures. He has also written on the nature of shareholders’ voting rights, where he sought to re-rationalise the doctrinal basis of those rights through the prism of property law.
