QMUL to co-host social enterprise festival
Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) and City, University of London are set to co-host a week-long social enterprise festival dedicated to promoting social enterprise and supporting entrepreneurs in delivering social impact through business.
The Social Enterprise Festival 2017, which runs from February 17 – 24 at both universities, offers an array of workshops, keynotes and networking opportunities with sessions that have been curated for those interested and involved with social enterprise.
Rachel Brown, Enterprise Programme Manager at QMUL, said: “We’re excited to be working on this festival with City University as it’s allowing events across both universities to reach a bigger diversity of students, community organisations and local businesses. Social enterprise is a particular focus of QMUL as we’re encouraging students to use their talent and skills to interact with the local community and establish sustainable businesses that will benefit them.”
As part of the festival QMUL will present the East London Social Hack - a three day bootcamp where teams of students will develop social enterprises to address issues in Tower Hamlets - which was recently awarded an £18,500 grant by the by The UPP Foundation, a charitable trust created by University Partnerships Programme (UPP).
Other QMUL sessions include a drop in legal clinic with qLegal, a drop in finance clinic with qNomics and ‘The Social Entrepreneur’s Journey’ during which attendees can hear from experienced entrepreneurs about their journey and how they managed both success and failure.
