Queen Mary law student wins Community Impact Award at the inaugural UKCISA We Are International Awards
Gowri Promy Kaprakattu, an international student in the School of Law at Queen Mary University of London, has received the Community Impact Award at the inaugural UKCISA We Are International Awards 2025. She is one of 13 winners selected from more than 420 nominations submitted by over 120 institutions across the UK.
Held for the first time this year, the #WeAreInternational Awards shine a light on excellence in leadership, innovation and community impact. They celebrate individuals, teams and institutions who help create a more inclusive international education sector and support the UK’s role as a global leader in welcoming international talent.
Gowri served as Co-President of the Queen Mary Lawyers Without Borders (LWOB) student division during the 2024–25 academic year. In this role, she helped raise awareness of human rights issues through social media content, discussions, fundraising initiatives and collaborations with other student societies at Queen Mary and with student groups at other universities. The LWOB student division also raised funds for organisations including Women’s Aid, Money for Madagascar and Lawyers Without Borders.
Gowri said: “Being part of the LWOB society has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my time at Queen Mary. Facilitating spaces where students can engage with human rights issues and contribute to positive change is something I care deeply about. I am honoured to receive this award.”
The UKCISA #WeAreInternational Awards were judged by a panel of sector experts and highlight outstanding examples of leadership and community engagement across the UK’s international education landscape.
