Queen Mary signs agreement to expand relationship with Thailand

The agreement, the first of its kind in the UK, will expand opportunities for Thai Government-funded undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD students to study at Queen Mary. It also introduces additional financial support for OCSC-sponsored PhD students in the Faculty of Science and Engineering, helping them to strengthen their research and development work.

Professor Colin Bailey, CBE, Principal and President of Queen Mary, welcomed Dr Piyawat Sivaraks, Secretary General of OCSC, along with other members of the Thai delegation, and reaffirmed the University’s commitment to deepening and strengthening ties with Thailand. The signing builds on discussions initiated during Queen Mary’s International Science Partnerships Fund (ISPF) mission to Thailand in January 2025, led by Professor Wen Wang FREng, Vice-Principal for Science and Engineering at the University.

By ensuring that Thai students are fully supported in reaching their academic potential, this new agreement paves the way for greater research collaboration and new opportunities in transnational education. More broadly, it reflects a shared vision of strengthening academic links and nurturing the next generation of highly skilled graduates.

During the visit this September, Professor Alex Clark, Dean for International in the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Queen Mary, highlighted the University’s collaborations with Thai universities and leading UK companies, as well as its strong focus on practical learning through the London City Institute of Technology.
