Journey to Higher Education

Queen Mary is pleased to provide a series of webinars and student panels to support you with your journey to higher education  

Registrations for our new webinars for 2025/26 are now live!

Our online series of webinars and student panel events aims to support you through the different stages of the application process.

Each session will provide you with information and practical tips to guide you through your journey to higher education. You will get the chance to hear from current Queen Mary students who have been through it all before.

Parents and Carers you will notice specific sessions to help you support your young person throughout their journey to higher education but please feel free to also register for sessions aimed at students.

Below is a list of upcoming webinars and student panels for the Autumn term. Feel free to book onto multiple sessions via the registration link listed in the description. Further events and topics will be advertised here during the Spring and Summer terms.

Teachers and advisers are very welcome to attend but are unable to book on behalf of a student or group of students.

Researching courses and Universities

Wednesday 6 May 2026, 4.30 - 5.30pm (BST)

Considering going to University and exploring your options? This session will help you navigate your university and course options and start making informed decisions ahead of Year 13.
 
In this session, we’ll cover:

  • How to research your options
  • Questions to ask yourself when considering choices
  • Tips on how to make the right choice for you
  • Useful resources to help with your decision making

You’ll also hear from current Queen Mary students about how they chose their course and university, and what they wish they knew at this stage.

This webinar is aimed at year 12 students.

Degree Apprenticeship Spotlight: Preparing for the Application Process

Wednesday 20 May 2026, 4.30 - 5.30pm (GMT)

Considering your options after sixth form or college? Degree apprenticeships are becoming an increasingly popular route but the application process can feel competitive and confusing. This session will help you get ahead early and understand exactly what’s involved.

In this session, we’ll cover:

  • What makes up a Degree Apprenticeship
  • How to research your options
  • The application steps
  • The differences between a Degree Apprenticeship and a Degree
  • Insight into some of Queen Mary's Apprenticeship courses

Writing Your Personal Statement

Wednesday 3 June 2026, 4.30 - 5.30pm (GMT)

Starting to think about your personal statement? Not sure what to include or how to make yours stand out? This session will help you get started early and feel more confident ahead of the UCAS deadline.

In this session, we’ll cover:

  • How to structure your personal statement
  • What universities are really looking for
  • Tips to help your application stand out
  • Common mistakes to avoid

You’ll also hear from current Queen Mary students who will share what worked for them and their top tips for writing a strong personal statement.

 

Transition to HE: Preparing for University 

Wednesday 17 June 2026, 5:00 - 6:00pm (GMT)

Thinking about what university will actually be like? Moving into higher education is a big step and understanding how it works can really help you feel more confident and prepared before you start.

In this session, you’ll learn about:

  • How learning is different at university compared to school, college and sixth form
  • Discover different teaching methods at university
  • Learn how you can develop specific skills to support your learning
  • Learn how to manage your time and organise your work
  • Learn about your own skills and how you learn best

 

UCAT Preparation Webinar: Verbal Reasoning 

Monday 22 June 2026, 5.00 - 6.00pm (GMT)

This webinar will introduce you to the UCAT and the Verbal Reasoning section of the test. Current medicine and dentistry students will talk you through how to answer different questions for this section using a variety of examples and discuss preparation strategies.

You will have the opportunity to ask questions throughout the session.

UCAT Preparation Webinar: Decision Making

Tuesday 23 June 2026, 5.00 - 6.00pm (GMT)

This webinar will introduce you to the UCAT and the Decision Making section of the test. Current medicine and dentistry students will talk you through how to answer different questions for this section using a variety of examples and discuss preparation strategies.

You will have the opportunity to ask questions throughout the session.

Monday 29 June 2026, 5.00 - 6.00pm (GMT)

This webinar will introduce you to the UCAT and the Quantitative Reasoning section of the test. Current medicine and dentistry students will talk you through how to answer different questions for this section using a variety of examples and discuss preparation strategies.

Tuesday 30 June 2026, 5.00 - 6.00pm (GMT)

This webinar will introduce you to the UCAT and the Situational Judgment section of the test. Current medicine and dentistry students will talk you through how to answer different questions for this section using a variety of examples and discuss preparation strategies.

You will have the opportunity to ask questions throughout the session.

Preparing for Clearing and Results Day

Wednesday 15 July 2026, 4.30 - 5.30pm (BST)

Results day is one of the biggest moments in your journey so far and whatever your results look like, there are always options. This session will help you feel confident, prepared, and ready to take your next step, including how Clearing can open up opportunities you may not have considered.

In this session, we’ll cover:

  • How to apply through Clearing
  • Why you might apply via Clearing
  • What happens if you are made an offer via Clearing
  • What happens on results day
  • Tips on how to prepare for all outcomes on results day

You’ll also hear from students who have experienced Clearing first-hand, followed by a Q&A where you can ask your own questions.

 

Preparing for Clearing and Results Day

Wednesday 29 July 2026, 6.00 - 7.00pm (BST)

With results day approaching, this session will help you understand Clearing and how you can support your child/young person through the process, whatever their results.

In this session, we’ll cover:

  • Admissions
  • How to find a course in Clearing
  • How to apply through Clearing
  • Why students apply via Clearing
  • What happens if they are made an offer via Clearing
  • What happens on results day
  • Tips on how to support them to prepare for all outcomes on results day

This session will also cover the key questions parents and carers often have about Clearing.
