Profile

Dr Sarah Silva holds a BSc (Hons) in Genetics from the University of Liverpool and an MSc in Genomic Medicine from Queen Mary University of London. She recently completed her PhD at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, where her work investigated ancestry-specific risk factors and genetic contributions to the pathophysiology of coronary artery disease.

Sarah is currently a postdoctoral researcher in the Genomic Diversity team at PHURI. Her research focuses on integrating genomics with other omics to investigate how genetic diversity influences disease mechanisms and health outcomes across populations, with a specific focus on cardiometabolic diseases and psychiatric disorders.

Sarah has a broader research interest in non-communicable disease epidemiology. Her work aims to improve global representation in genomics through studies of historically under-represented and diverse ancestry populations, contributing to a more globally representative, ancestry-informed understanding of disease risk and supporting equitable precision medicine.
