“One World, Many Genomes: Bridging the Gap for Precision Medicine”
"Our world is in dire need of medicine that caters to everyone, not just a privileged few. Genomics holds the promise of revolutionizing healthcare by tailoring treatments to individual genetic makeup, ensuring that everyone has access to effective and tailored medicine. However, the majority of genomic studies have focused on populations of European descent, creating a significant knowledge gap in genetic diversity across different populations."
In his Inaugural Lecture, Professor Segun Fatumo will explore the transformative potential of genomic diversity in shaping the future of healthcare. He will highlight the importance of harnessing the genetic diversity within African populations for comprehensive gene mapping, risk profiling, and the overarching goal of enhancing health outcomes for everyone.
