Being a mentor and reviewer for Advance HE applicants has been an extremely rewarding part of my work at Queen Mary. The role offers a unique window into the diverse and innovative teaching practices of colleagues across the University, providing invaluable opportunities for mutual learning and growth.
What I find most fulfilling is guiding colleagues through the reflective process of developing their applications. This involves helping them navigate the framework, asking probing questions, and supporting them as they crystallise their thoughts to effectively showcase their excellent teaching practices. Witnessing this transformation, from initial discussions to polished, evidence-rich reflective applications, is inspiring.
Beyond the mentoring itself, being part of the Teaching Recognition Programme community has enhanced my development as an educator. The supportive atmosphere and insightful discussions have broadened my perspectives on teaching and learning, while the training and professional development opportunities have strengthened my practice. Perhaps most importantly, the meaningful conversations with colleagues across different faculties and disciplines serve as a powerful reminder that we are all part of a vibrant community dedicated to impactful education.
This sense of shared purpose and collective commitment to educational excellence continues to energise me and motivate me in my own teaching and mentoring work!
