Reuben Loffman, School of Society and Environment - Department of History

I have been an active participant in the Teaching Recognition Programme, usually as a mentor, for much of my time working in the Department of History, School of Society and Environment (SSE), at QMUL. I have worked closely with Teaching Associates (TAs) in particular, predominantly in the role of Director of TAs that I took on for a number of years, although I have mentored other colleagues too. Together with the wonderful staff at QMUL Academy, one of the most important parts of my mentoring role has been to demystify the recognition process and allow applicants to do justice to the quality of their teaching in their applications.
It has been a privilege to work with colleagues in the field of learning, teaching, and scholarship. I have learnt a tremendous amount from these experiences and especially from observing a wide range of seminars over the years. Some of the most enriching parts of this work are seeing the variety of ways in which staff work with students to achieve some fantastic learning outcomes and objectives as well as encountering different fields within my discipline. It is also wonderful when colleagues achieve their Fellowships. The emails from applicants letting me know that they have been successful have been some of the most joyful experiences I have had in my time at QMUL. I vert much look forward to working with many more colleagues in future and helping them to achieve their teaching recognition awards!"
