Queen Mary Accountancy Student Wins Rising Star of the Year at Black Talent Awards 2025
We are proud to celebrate the outstanding achievement of BSc Accountancy (Flying Start) student Aaron Michael Dorsett, who has been named Rising Star of the Year at the Black Talent Awards 2025.

The Black Talent Awards ceremony took place in Birmingham on 26 September 2025. The awards recognise Black professionals and students across the UK who are making a meaningful impact in their fields. The Rising Star category honours individuals under 30 who demonstrate exceptional growth, leadership, and long-term potential to shape their industries.
Aaron’s award is a testament to his entrepreneurial ambition, professional excellence, and future-facing mindset. Before joining Queen Mary University of London, Aaron built and scaled an international e-commerce business across three regions - an achievement that reflects his commitment to challenging traditional pathways into business. Now, as part of PwC’s esteemed Flying Start programme, he is combining academic rigour with hands-on experience in Banking & Capital Markets.
Speaking about the award, Aaron said:
“Winning Rising Star of the Year is an honour not just as recognition, but as proof of what’s possible when you move without waiting. Not for permission. Not for age. Not for a title. You can just do things. From building a six-figure business in my teens, to developing tech with tier 1 consultants, to now sharpening my acumen through PwC’s Flying Start degree, every chapter reflects a long-term ambition to shape the future of global business. The world doesn’t reward perfection, it rewards those who move.”
Dr Ishani Chandrasekara, Programme Director for BSc Accountancy (Flying Start) at Queen Mary, said:
“We are incredibly proud of Aaron’s well-deserved recognition. His drive, creativity, and professionalism represent exactly what the Flying Start programme is designed to nurture. This award signals the strength of his vision and the impact he is already having in the business world.”
The School of Business and Management congratulates Aaron on this exceptional recognition. His journey exemplifies the kind of enterprising spirit and global outlook we aim to nurture in all our students. We look forward to supporting his continued success as he explores the intersection of entrepreneurship, finance, and innovation.
