SBM Mentoring Programme Launches with Inspiring Networking Event at the Octagon
Last night the School of Business and Management (SBM) at Queen Mary University of London was delighted to launch the 2025/26 SBM Mentoring Programme, welcoming mentors, mentees, alumni, and staff to an inspiring evening in The Octagon.

This year, the programme has brought together 170 mentors and mentees, marking another successful step in the School’s commitment to helping students grow in confidence and prepare for their future careers.
Over the next seven months, the mentoring pairs will work together to explore career goals, develop employability skills, and build meaningful professional relationships. Mentors include alumni and industry professionals from sectors such as finance, consultancy, government, marketing, HR, law, and entrepreneurship.
The launch event provided the first opportunity for mentors and mentees to meet in person, setting the stage for a year of shared learning and growth. Attendees were welcomed by Elizabeth Bailey, Lecturer in Professional Development, who opened the evening by highlighting the importance of community and collaboration in shaping successful careers.
“Our mentoring programme embodies what makes the School of Business and Management at Queen Mary special – a diverse and supportive community where students and professionals come together to share experiences, build confidence, and learn from one another.” - Naima Zannat, Business Development and Mentoring Officer
Guests heard from one of last year’s mentees, Anna Panthrose and Anna's mentor, Sophie Harris who shared reflections on their own professional journey and offered advice on making the most of mentoring relationships. The evening also provided a chance for informal networking, with many students describing it as both motivating and reassuring as they begin their mentoring journey.
The SBM Mentoring Programme is part of the School’s wider commitment to employability and personal development. Through this initiative, students at the School gain an insight into different industries, develop key skills for the workplace, and form lasting connections with professionals who understand their ambitions and challenges.
For mentors, the programme offers the chance to give back, share their expertise, and make a meaningful difference in the lives of students. Many of whom may be the first in their family to attend university.
As the programme continues through the academic year, we look forward to seeing the positive impact of these partnerships.
