Profile

Alex Cline, PhD is a senior lecturer in DevOps (development operations) focused on teaching the design and implementation of scalable technology services. Alex completed an MA at the University of Sussex Center for Digital Material Culture, and a PhD at Anglia Ruskin’s Cultures of the Digital Economy Institute, now StoryLab. Prior to Queen Mary, Alex worked at Ada National College for Digital Skills, and Northeastern University’s London campus. At Northeastern, he acted as the academic lead for the GLA and DfE-funded Digital Skills Bootcamp in Digital Service Design and Management. At QMUL, he is director of employability for the school of physical and chemical sciences. He is also the deputy director of the apprenticeship programme at the London City Institute of Technology.

Research

Performance

Alex has worked on the design and implementation of information systems for sustainability, cultural heritage and collections management. As well as commercial projects, he has worked as a research software developer and data engineer for projects at several university departments. Alex specialises in the utilization of public and private cloud technologies for scalable distributed architectures. He is an AWS Academy Faculty Ambassador, a Google Cloud Faculty Expert, and a certified instructor for PeopleCert and ServiceNow certifications.
