Clearing

Preparing for Clearing

If you're considering going into Clearing or if you're waiting for your results and think that you might go into Clearing, you can start preparing even before you get your results.

Steps to prepare

Step one - Do your research

  • Your Clearing choices don’t have to match your original application subjects.

  • Think about what truly interests you — whether it’s something you studied before or a new area.

  • Use the Clearing coursefinder to explore options.

  • Look closely at course details and modules to see if they’re a good fit.

  • Take detailed notes, especially when comparing similar courses at different universities — it’ll help you stay organised on Results Day.

Step two - Consider where the course can take you

When you’re trying to decide on a course, think about your future plans and ask yourself the following questions -

  • Where do I want to be five years after I graduate?
  • How will this course help me get there?

You could search for job listings and see what kind of qualifications they require. This research can guide you when thinking about the course you want to study.

Step three - Prepare to apply

Make sure you know how and when to apply. At Queen Mary you have the option to apply online or by phone - check out our guides to understand how they both work.

You can find a summary of dates and deadlines or visit the UCAS website for more information.
