How to Find a Book, Printed Journal, or DVD in the Library

Start with Library Search
Use Library Search to look up the item you need. -
Check Availability
Each record shows whether the item is currently available. You can reserve books that are currently not available. -
Check the Location
The record will show:- Which library and floor the item is on
e.g., Mile End – Books – 1st Floor - The shelfmark, which tells you where it sits on the shelves
e.g., QL568.A6 FRE
- Which library and floor the item is on

Finding your book using the shelfmark
Books are arranged in alphabetical and numerical order. For example, if your shelfmark is GBE 653.3 LEW -
- First, look for the shelves starting with 'G', then narrow down to 'GBE'.
- On the 'GBE' shelves, look for the number 653.3.
- The final letters, in this case LEW, relate to the author's surname.
