Edgar Mercieca is the Campus Manager and Safety Coordinator at Queen Mary, University of London, Malta Campus. In his role, he oversees preventive maintenance and repairs, ensuring all works are carried out in a timely and professional manner. Edgar also ensures that all safety systems are fully operational and follows up with staff to confirm that health and safety training is up to date and that all responsibilities are fulfilled.
Prior to joining Queen Mary University of London Malta Campus, Edgar lived in the United States of America, where he worked for 16 years at The Ritz-Carlton, New York Central Park. He is a fully licensed Building Engineer with the City of New York and a certified Fire Safety Director. During his time there, he was responsible for ensuring that all assets and facilities operated seamlessly, with any discrepancies addressed immediately. Working within the gold standard of hospitality, his daily objective was to deliver a flawless five-star luxury experience to residents and guests.
Edgar also proudly served in the Armed Forces of Malta, where he was a member of the Maritime Squadron. He served as the Engineer onboard vessels P31 and P51 and was also involved in ground support electronics and telecommunications repair. During his service, he participated in numerous rescue operations and law enforcement missions and attended multiple Military Engineering courses with the United States Navy and the U.S. Coast Guard.
In his spare time, Edgar enjoys spending time with his family and watching football. He is an active member of his hometown community of Għajnsielem (meaning “Peaceful Spring”). Edgar also actively participates in the annual local feast dedicated to Our Lady of Loreto and is an executive member of the Pyrotechnics Committee, Għaqda Piroteknika 10 ta’ Diċembru- Ghajnsielem, while also supporting other committees that contribute to these celebrations.
