Centre for the Study of Race, Class and Empire

We are committed to shaping and promoting cutting-edge multidisciplinary research examining the intersections of race, class and empire across the humanities and social sciences.

Working across the Humanities and Social Sciences, the Centre addresses key questions relating to the production of racism and other forms of marginalisation in politics, society, arts, culture and everyday practice.

Logo for the Centre for the Study of Race, Class and EmpireWe facilitate critical dialogue and research investigating these issues and contemporary crises of our times – wars, pandemics, climate change, and more.

We invite research that examines: race, class and empire as a concept, practice or structure; historical and contemporary forms of racism, imperialism and inequalities; and resistance by different actors – activists, intellectuals, social movements and ordinary people. The Centre is dedicated to public engagement activities and collaborative partnerships with universities, community organisations, and global audiences across a range of formats and activities.
