Groups and workshops

There are a number of groups run by the Advice and Counselling Service, sometimes in liaison with external services. Take a look below to see what groups are currently available.

Peer Support Group for those affected by sexual assault, violation or violence.
This group offers a peer-support space for individuals who have experienced sexual assault, violation or violence at any time in their lives. It provides a space to discuss topics and impacts around sexual assault and violence while also exploring coping strategies that people have found useful in the past. Participants will also receive a selection of resources that they can use in their own time.
The group will be facilitated by one of our Sexual Assault and Harrassment Advisers and a Student Wellbeing Adviser. The group is available to those of any or no gender.
Group dates:
Mondays 10am-12:30pm from 23rd February - 30th March 2026.

PhD Support Group
The PhD Support Group is run by the Advice and Counselling Service. It aims to provide a safe, confidential space in which PhD students support each other with personal, emotional and relationship issues that are holding them back. Find out more information on the PhD Support Group page.
Procrastination Bootcamp

If procrastination is an issue, you may like to register for this 6-week bootcamp taking place in person on Mile End campus and run by one of our Student Wellbeing Advisers.
Session dates:
Wednesdays 3-5pm from 18th February - 1st April 2026 with a break on 11th March 2026.

Self Compassion Group

Group focusing on understanding and developing compassion for our selves. The group will take place in person and will involve myth busting, group discussions, in-session exercises and between-session exercises.

Anyone interested in the self-compassion group will need to book an appointment to meet with one of the counselling team in the first instance to discuss the group and the counsellor you meet would then do an in house referral to the group if appropriate.

Therapeutic Gym Group for Black Women

Group for Black women to take part in an assisted workout with a trainer at Q-motion on the Mile End campus, followed by a reflective session.
Workouts will be 40 minutes and will include Boxfit, HIIT cardio, HIIT strength and Hatha Yoga. Afterwards, we will come together in a private, safe and confidential space and spend 60 minutes talking about the session and what came up for us, alongside themed topics.
Group dates:
Mondays 1.30 - 3.30pm, from 19th January - 23rd February 2026.
How to join:
Students who identify as Black and female will be contacted directly by email with an invitation to apply for the group. Students can also be referred by a member of the Advice and Counselling team.
Mindfulness courses
QMUL offers a rich diet of mindfulness activities to students who want to thrive, rather than just survive, at university. The sessions are led by mindfulness teacher Bob Chase. Some take place online, and others in person a St Benet’s Chaplaincy on Mile End Campus. There is also a Mindful Study app with guided meditations and tools to manage procrastination and pre-exam stress.
