Partner Summer Schools

The below summer programs function independently to Queen Mary. Students must apply through the host institutions and are responsible for their own fees, accommodation, organisation and travel as per the guidelines of the host. 

If accepted by a programme, students should notify the Queen Mary Global Partnerships and Opportunities Office at summerschool@qmul.ac.uk.

Credit Guidance

Summer School attendance supports your personal, linguistic and academic development, and is a big draw for employers looking for stand-out candidates. However, due to the UK credit system, credit earned on international (and most national) summer programmes does not count towards your degree.

IBA International Entrepreneurship Summer School 2024 at the IBA Karachi

Institute of Business Administration, Karachi, Pakistan

The program includes an engaging curriculum for international students covering various essential topics such as ideation and innovation, business modelling, market research, design thinking, entrepreneurial marketing, financing and fundraising, and international business strategy. Participants will also enjoy cultural and sightseeing tours within Karachi and visit the stunning and exquisite landscapes of Northern Pakistan.

The entrepreneurship course features sessions led by both international and national faculty, incorporating guest speaker sessions with entrepreneurs from across the globe. These are followed by interactive student presentations and group activities centred around various entrepreneurial models.

International Summer School, New Delhi, Delhi, India

Since 2013, the ISS — which is jointly hosted by the Department of Political Science at Jamia Millia Islamia - A Central University and the Esya Centre – has brought together students from across the globe to dive into undergraduate course modules that highlight India’s remarkable journey and gain hands-on internship & service learning experiences with top organizations.
 
Throughout the program, students explore India’s core values — inspired by Gandhian principles of Swaraj (self-reliance), Satyagraha (commitment to truth), and Sarvodaya (welfare for all) — and how they shape innovative, sustainable, and inclusive models of development that are of relevance to the Global South.

The program was established under the Government of India’s Incredible India campaign with support from the Ministry of External Affairs.  Over the years, the ISS has collaborated with entities such as the ASEAN Secretariat, DFID (UK Government, through ORF) and the India-Bhutan Foundation among several other multilateral & governmental bodies.

Manipal Academy of Higher Education, India

Manipal International Summer School 2026 (MISS) is a novel initiative of MAHE that aims
to bring together international students from a diverse range of backgrounds and cultures and provide them an experience of learning both inside and outside the classrooms. The courses are designed for two weeks of intensive learning in every morning involving the interactions with experts in the field of chosen departments. Inside the classroom, students will interact, network and debate on issues of varied nature based on the course selected – science, geopolitics, management and humanities.

Kyoto University 

Kyoto Summer Programme 

Kyoto Summer Program is an annual short-term program opens to both international students from our partner universities around the world and domestic students enrolled at Kyoto University (KyotoU).

This program is a collaborative effort between the Kyoto University Institute for Liberal Arts and Sciences (ILAS) and Kyoto University Asian Studies Unit (KUASU). It is divided into two sub-programs: ILAS program, in which English is the main instruction language, and KUASU program, in which Japanese is the main instruction language.

Both sub-programs share a core curriculum that primarily aims to develop an understanding of the political, cultural, historical, social, and ecological issues facing Japan. Both provide opportunities to learn the Japanese language and to study with local students. The whole program is also designed to highlight KyotoU’s unique academic culture and cutting-edge research facilities. Kyoto University students (KyotoU students) join this program together to stimulate the opportunity of cooperative learning.

National Taiwan University - College of Law

The College of Law's Summer Program offers three weeks of intensive courses focusing on modern data law and its practical applications. It provides an excellent opportunity for students to gain theoretical and practical knowledge in data regulations, blockchain applications, and empirical legal studies. The curriculum covers key topics, including data processing, cross-border data transfer, blockchain-based data technologies, and advanced methodologies like AI-driven legal studies, equipping students with essential skills for navigating the evolving legal landscape. 

Law and Data (3 NTU short-term program credits): This program consists of three sections
(1)    Modern Data Law, focusing on regulations such as data anonymization, processing, sharing, and cross-border transfer; 
(2)    Law, Data, and Blockchain, exploring blockchain-based data technologies and their impact on financial regulation and the data economy#
(3)    Data and Empirical Legal Studies, introducing advanced data analytical methodologies like AI and machine learning for legal research. 

Students will study intensively for 4-6 hours daily to complete these sections throughout the 3-week program.

Eligibility

This program is open to the following categories of students:
1.    Students aged 18 or older attending schools abroad with a minimum GPA of 2.7.
2.    Graduate and undergraduate students currently studying at domestic universities and colleges with a minimum GPA of 2.7 (limited to 5 spots).

National Taiwan University

NTU Plus Academy  enables students from all around the world to gain international experience and explore different cultures by undertaking a Chinese Culture and Language Summer school.

The programme has been designed for students of all levels, from beginner to advanced, who want to learn Chinese. The programme also includes the opportunity to participate in cultural activities and interact with the local community. NTU also offer a series of English-based lectures and field trips that allow students to explore specific environmental and sociocultural aspects of Taiwan.

Items 1-2 are organized by the Office of International Affairs, while items 3-5 programs are organized by different colleges/departments at NTU, and students can find contact persons/coordinators via the website to learn more about course details.

 

Peking University – Guangha School of Managemnent

The Doing Business in China (DBIC) Program provides students with the critical foundation they need to do business in or with mainland China through a combination of pre-program online coursework, China-related academic modules, company visits, guest speakers from different industries, and cultural immersion projects to help students better understand the underpinnings of China's rapid economic growth and development. The program brings world-class teaching and resources from PKU Guanghua to students through a vibrant learning environment on the beautiful PKU campus. Faculty of Law Universitas Indonesia

“Indonesian Law and its Application: Unity in Diversity”

This summer course will delve into the applicability, harmony, and challenges posed by these legal systems within the Indonesian context. Participants will have the opportunity to gain firsthand insights into the management of diverse adat and village communities, as well as explore the intricate balance between sustainable environmental development and stakeholder interests.

Moreover, the program goes beyond classroom learning by including visits to prestigious state institutions such as the Supreme Court and Constitutional Court in Jakarta, as well as cultural experiences in Solo. Participants will immerse themselves in Indonesia's rich cultural heritage through activities such as watching the Ramayana ballet performance in Prambanan Temple Court and visiting historical sites like the Kadipatèn Mangkunegaran.

 

Yonsei University International Summer School

Since its inception in 1985 as Korea’s first international summer programme, Yonsei International Summer School (YISS) has continued to grow, attracting over 2,400 students from 77 countries worldwide annually, marking the highest participation rate both domestically and historically. During the summer, students can earn academic credits through diverse and high-quality courses offered at YISS. Additionally, they can gain internship experience at companies and research institutes in Korea.

Course description: The iSummerMx Programs are an itinerant academic experience for students who love traveling and learning about new cultures. You’ll visit several Tec de Monterrey campuses in different cities over 4 weeks, learning about multiple, diverse regions of Mexico. Each program/course has special activities, conferences and trips that will make the experience unforgettable! Following a Tec Learning Model competency-based Learning Model, students upskill multi-disciplinary abilities and specialisation for their professional future. Students will enjoy field trips to gain an inside look at companies, industries, or entrepreneurial initiatives to exert analysis, synthesis, and problem-solving processes in a multicultural setting.     Students will analyse the impact of economic, political, social, technological, legal, and environmental variables identifying opportunities in international markets for enterprises. They will formulate and propose strategies and tactics to improve the competitive position and competitive advantage of an enterprise internationally.
  2. MT1002B Market Solutions
    Students will develop proposals for new products and services to differentiate the organization. They will identify market needs by obtaining and analysing primary and secondary information. By designing marketing plans, students will explore ways to take the value proposals to the market, achieving the organization’s goals. Students will use predictive scenarios, including risk and financial analysis and graphic reports to guide decision-making processes. 

Mexican Cultural Heritage and Social Challenges:

  1. EH1013 - Cultural Heritage of Mexico
    This course examines the composition of the cultural heritage of Mexico, drawing from two analysis dimensions by doing a study about the material characteristics of objects and historical sites to distinguish between tangible and intangible heritage.   2. EH1014 - Violence, Dignity and Social Justice
    In this course, students will identify societal problems such as exploitation, vulnerability, and expressions of violence, describing the ethical elements involved in the situation and approaching them from elementary notions of ethics, personal beliefs, customs, or traditions. Students will recognize the interests of the stakeholders involved and will exercise logical reasoning processes to recognize and analyse a problem to explore possible alternatives for conflict resolution and promote solidarity relationships between human beings.

Regional Economics:

  1. EC1003B Macroeconomics and Economic Development
    Based on real and nominal macroeconomic variables, students will analyse the effects that economic growth and development have on a country's society.
  2. EC1020 Micro Economic Incentives and Macro Outcomes
    The student will apply systemic thinking in the analysis of the economic problems of a society. Students will apply basic concepts of economics to understand the interrelation of the decisions of economic agents and their effects on the macro results of the economy. Concepts of economic efficiency, market equilibrium, optimization analysis, and economic development will be included.

Beyond Borders (Migration Up Close): An immersive journey through the culture, society and political context of Mexico:

  1. RI2002B Regional Scenarios in the Contemporary World
    In this course, students analyse international conflicts, such as the ones that arose in the 19th century worldwide, the First and Second World Wars, and the Cold War, considering their causes and consequences, as well as the actors involved, their interests, positions and strategic decisions. Students will evaluate discriminatory discourse and practices, applying discourse analysis tools from the perspective of multiculturality.
  2. RI1016 Gender, Society and Human Rights
    The aim of this course on gender perspective is for students to learn about and apply the concept of gender as an analytical category in their professional studies and research areas, through case-study discussion, analysis and questioning of information and knowledge related to gender equality in economic, political and social terms.

Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile, Santigo de Chile

Apacheta Programme

A four-week program that integrates a Spanish course with 10 seminars about doing business in Latin America and its cultural perspective. Interested students do not need to have an advanced level of Spanish, since the course is aimed for CEFR A1 students. Also, the seminars will be delivered in English.

Programme highlights: Varied social and cultural programme including visit to the Human Rights Museum and Moneda Palace, buddy programme, university facilities. 

Spanish in Chile Programme 

This program offers one Spanish course, depending on the student level (CEFR A1 to B2 are available) in a 3-week period. Classes are performed by teachers from the UC Chile Spanish Program. Along with this, it includes three cultural activities, orientation (welcome and farewell meeting) and social activities with UC Chile students.

Summer School in Classical Chinese and Classical Japanese / Kanbun at Ca' Foscari University of Venice

The UPM International Summer School (ISS) is a five-week multilingual study abroad programme, addressing some of the latest trends in technology, engineering and architecture, combined with a taste of Spanish language and culture in one of Europe’s most cosmopolitan cities. The UPM ISS programme offers a wide range of short courses of varying length taught in Spanish or English. Participants are free to put together their own track by combining courses with compatible schedules.

univie: summer school – International and European Studies 2026

The univie: summer school is located in the picturesque village of Strobl in the Salzkammergut region, one of Austria’s most attractive summer vacation areas. The four-week program offers high-level European Studies courses, the Austrian Arbitration Academy, and German language courses.

The European Studies courses are held in English and focus on Europe and the European Union. They cover political, economic, and legal transformations, and historical and cultural aspects of the multiple transitions the continent is currently undergoing. The Austrian Arbitration Academy is designed for law students and focuses on international dispute settlement by arbitral tribunals.

Given the intercultural and interdisciplinary aspect of the summer school, our program is of interest to students from all fields of study, but certainly of special interest to students who concentrate on Europe or study one of the following fields: Austrian Studies, European Studies, Political Science, Law (Arbitration Law, International Law, European Law, Comparative Law), Economics, History, Cultural Studies, International Relations, Interdisciplinary Studies, and/or German.
