QMplus Tips and Tricks
These observations have been compiled from our lessons learned when providing support across the institution.
Familiarise yourself with the QM Baseline standards
Please visit the QMplus Baseline Standards page. These standards outline the minimum design requirements for a QMplus module to be effective and provide a good student experience.
Check your school's guidelines
You have a lot of control over your QMplus area however, your School/Institute/Department may have general guidelines about how things should be laid out. These ensure consistency for students and make life easier for administrative staff. Ensure you are aware of these guidelines by talking to your local QMplus contact before working on your course page.
Visit our Sandpit area
If you would like a space to practice using the activities and resources available on QMplus then visit our staff sandpit area. This is a QMplus course you can enrol yourself onto, it is populated with some activities and demo student data, you can add activities and use it to test new things. The course resets every hour on the hour.
Label your course effectively
Labelling your course effectively helps students to navigate it successfully. Student feedback has referred to how much easier it is to navigate their courses if the content is laid out in a logical, well labelled fashion. One student commented that semesters are only three months, and a lot of students have only just adapted to how their course works when the course is about to end.
Can I reuse quizzes and assignments?
Please do not reuse quizzes and assignments, this can cause problems with the course which prevents them from working effectively. Please recreate each assignment and store your quiz questions in the question bank. The initial quiz bank set up may take a little time, but it will ensure you can then create reliable quizzes quickly.
Do contact TELT if you need any help or advice re using the questions bank.
Prepare for the new academic year
Do not simply reuse your course over and over, without using one of our end of year methods to prepare your course for the next academic year. If you are unsure whether you should be performing a rollover, duplicating your course or creating a brand new one, please speak to a member of the TELT team to discuss which method is most suitable for your circumstances.
