I truly enjoyed my time as a TELT Student Ambassador during Welcome Week. Throughout my university journey, I’ve been involved in various extracurriculars, from mentoring to volunteering. However, my role with TELT during Welcome Week was a completely unique experience, one that challenged me in ways I hadn’t anticipated and helped me grow both personally and professionally.
Unlike my previous roles, which were often centred on one-on-one interactions or small groups, TELT at Welcome Week gave me the chance to engage with large groups of students in a fast-paced, high-energy environment. Whether through one-on-one conversations, promotional activities, or public speaking, I gained valuable experience in communicating with new students on a wider scale. This experience helped me understand how impactful clear and approachable communication can be in fostering engagement and ensuring students feel connected from day one.
What was especially eye-opening was how TELT allowed me to not only help students feel more comfortable with the digital tools available to them but also to contribute to a larger initiative aimed at enhancing their overall learning experience. Welcome Week was the perfect platform for this, as I had the opportunity to make new students feel welcomed, confident and excited about the tools they could use throughout their university journey. This experience reinforced the importance of empathy, adaptability and communication.
One of the highlights of my time during Welcome Week was being involved in TELT’s social media and branding efforts. I had the chance to bring my creativity to the table, creating content and supporting campaigns that would engage students and raise awareness of TELT’s resources. This experience helped me gain insight into digital marketing and the importance of crafting a consistent, student-focused message.
Additionally, this role gave me a chance to sharpen my public speaking and presentation skills. Speaking at Welcome Week events, I learned how to connect with a diverse audience and communicate in a way that was both engaging and informative. I had to balance enthusiasm with clarity, ensuring that students felt not only informed but also inspired about the digital tools available to them.
I’m incredibly proud to have been part of the TELT community during Welcome Week, contributing to a project that made a real difference in helping students navigate digital learning tools from day one. It was a rewarding experience that not only supported new students in starting their academic journey with confidence but also allowed me to grow both personally and professionally. Being involved in such a dynamic and meaningful initiative has been one of the highlights of my university experience.
