Starting my first Welcome Week as a TELT Ambassador was exciting but a little daunting. I knew we’d be helping new students settle in and learn to use QMUL’s digital tools, but I didn’t realise how much preparation was involved.
Before the week began, I reviewed our induction session plan and practiced presenting with my partner to feel confident and well-timed. We also met with the wider TELT team to refine slides, test interactive elements, and cover small practical details like reminding students about allergies before handing out chocolates and signposting extra resources for later.
Another part of my role was helping create Instagram content. Working with the social media team, I designed welcome graphics on Canva and wrote short, friendly captions to engage new students online.
Delivering the induction sessions was the highlight. Sharing tips, weaving in relatable anecdotes, and answering live questions made the sessions feel personal and impactful.
Looking back, I’ve grown in public speaking, teamwork, and digital communication. Next time, I’d like to present to larger groups and refine my design skills further. Welcome Week was a rewarding way to support others while building my own confidence and creativity.
Overall, Welcome Week was a fantastic way to start the year and reminded me how much impact small actions like clear explanations, friendly advice, and thoughtful digital resources can have on someone’s first impression of university life.
