Precision Musculoskeletal Sciences MSc Programme

The world’s first MSc in Precision Musculoskeletal Sciences launching in September 2026 with a strong emphasis on biopsy-driven stratification, multi-omics approaches, innovative clinical trial design, and clinical observership in collaboration with the Barts Health Education Academy at Barts Health NHS Trust, the programme positions itself at the forefront of modern musculoskeletal medicine.

Educational activities

The Centre for Experimental Medicine & Rheumatology (EMR) drives an extensive educational programme, contributing approximately 525 teaching hours annually across the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry (FMD) and the School of Biological and Behavioural Sciences (SBBS).

Our teaching and mentoring impact includes:

  • Module Leadership: We lead or co-lead 3 modules and contribute to the delivery of more than 10 modules each year across both schools.
  • Student Supervision: EMR academics supervise approximately 24 MBBS students through the FMD Academic Advisory Scheme (Medical Professionalism) and 8 SBBS students for their final-year BSc projects.
  • Clinical Assessments: The Centre coordinates the delivery of over 200 OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Examination) sessions by WHRI academics for MBBS assessments, with EMR staff directly conducting 31 of these sessions.
  • Community Outreach: We lead the annual WHRI Work Experience Programme, hosting roughly 30 sixth-form students each year.
