Year in Industry
The Year in Industry is an optional extension of select MSc programmes, allowing you to gain full-time, paid professional experience before you graduate.
Alongside your academic studies, you will take part in a structured employability programme and receive dedicated support from our specialist placement partner. This prepares you to compete for early-career roles and maximise your chances of securing a placement aligned with your career goals.
How the programme works
Our MSc Year in Industry placement offers the opportunity to gain valuable professional experience through a full-time, paid role lasting a minimum of 35 weeks. Placements are sourced from the open job market and must be relevant to your field of study, ensuring you develop skills aligned with your career goals. While placements cannot be guaranteed, the programme is carefully designed to prepare you for success, with comprehensive support provided throughout your search and application journey.
International students
For international students, the Year in Industry offers:
- An additional year of full-time work experience as part of your degree

- A position aligned with your field of study
- Ongoing support and monitoring from the University and placement partner
