GEP - GP1

Students will attend a general practice placement, in groups of 6-8, for 14 days on alternate Thursdays throughout the academic year. Each day is themed and has specific learning outcomes, outlined in the sections below.

To provide students with opportunities to communicate with patients and gain an understanding of the patient experience of health and social determinants over the course of their lives.

  • 14 alternate Thursdays throughout the academic year.
  • 6 - 8 students.
  • Teaching will take place in person.
  • Small group tutorials
  • Interviewing clinicians and other healthcare professionals
  • Interviewing patients 
  • Self-directed learning
  • Debrief on patient encounters and provide feedback to all students

There are three assessments for GP1:

  • Reflective piece on professional identity
  • Reflective piece on a patient encounter
  • Student attendance and professionalism

Tutors will be asked to submit each student's attendance record after each placement day, marks for reflective pieces and comments on professionalism on a Microsoft Form sent as part of the introductory email. The same form can be used throughout the module.

  • £6,720 for 6 students
  • £8,960 for 8 students 

NB: sessional payment rates increase with the number of teaching sessions offered
