What should I do if a student is absent/missing?
Attendance at all lectures and placements is mandatory for our students. Please record student attendance at your placement and send us the attendance record with the student assessment. Please inform us at the time of any unexplained non-attendance, non-attendance on day 1 of a placement or any student that misses more than two placement days even if they have provided an explanation.
Contact the module lead or administrator to report.

What training is available for our staff?
Visit Training and Events.
What can the Practice do to prepare for student placements?
Students greatly appreciate an organised practice with lots of opportunities for active learning and engaging with the team. We recommend:
- The appointment of an Educational Coordinator to take responsibility for the administrative side of student learning in your practice (there is now a new Educational Coordinator prize awarded at our Spring Education Day)
- Sending student a pre-placement email to check in with them about their learning needs and give them key information on when to turn up, how to get there, lunch time arrangements etc.
- use of a student induction handout with suggested relevant information for students about your practice.
- making the whole team aware that the students are coming
- Organising student computer and internet access
- see QA guidance for GP Placements:
Can students self-organise their 5th Year placement at my practice?
If you are a contracted teaching practice then students cannot self-organise at your practice.
How much will we be paid for teaching?
This depends on the unit that you teach and the number of students. Please refer to the Current Payment Rates
At the End of Teaching what do I need to do to get paid?
The completion of the online student assessment will prompt payment. That's all. The GP Tutor should award each student an overall assessment after consultation with the appropriate teachers, including members of practice staff who have been in close contact with a student. The completion of the assessment should be done with the student present.
When will we receive payment?
Within 4-6 weeks of the final placement day.
Why can’t the money be paid directly to me instead of the Practice?
Because the money you receive is intended for the loss of service time to your practice due to teaching.
What are Facilities Payments?
The facilities money is to cover such things as practice infrastructure costs (heating, lighting, cleaning, equipment insurance, TV licence), the costs of maintaining and replacing the ULP equipment, staff administration time, consumables and GP protected time for training and preparation.
The practice facilities payments increases in accordance with the number of sessions you teach. Please refer to the Current Payment Rates.
How often are Facilities Payments paid?
At the end of every quarter, although we pay quarters 1 and 2 together in November. Quarter 3 in December and the final payment in March. Please note these payments can only be authorised once you return your signed Service Level Agreement (SLA).
How will we know a payment has been made?
The practice will receive a remittance advice following each payment.
Please refer to the QA handbook:
