Account Extension

When a staff member's contract ends, IT Services will disable their IT and email accounts. However, we can extend both accounts for academic and research staff where there is a valid contract. The Centre Administrator/ Institute manager/School Research manager/School Manager (or their equivalent) must raise a ticket with the Service Desk. 

Please note that the account will be inaccessible past the extension date. We will need to receive explicit instructions if the contract is renewed after the extension date. Should this be the case, please inform us at least 7 days in advance before the contract is renewed.

Requests must be submitted at least one week before the contract end date and must include:

  • A start and end date for the extension
  • Details of the new or extended University contract the individual has been issued
  • What project or research they are working on
  • Who is leading the project or research and overseeing the account owner
  • The reason for extension (why will the account be required, what work will they be doing, how will this benefit QMUL)

If the request is not submitted in time or without the required details, the account will be automatically disabled and only re-enabled once the request has been approved.
