Advocates for Change

Advocates for Change is an initiative designed to broaden participation in the legal profession by connecting undergraduate law students from UK state schools with judges across London. The programme offers a rare opportunity to step inside the courtroom, observe judicial decision‑making up close, and gain insight into the realities of legal practice.

Through a structured court‑marshalling placement, students spend dedicated time shadowing judges in their preferred areas of law. After expressing their interests - whether in criminal justice, family law, immigration law, or another field - participants are matched with a judge who welcomes them into their courtroom and chambers. This personalised placement ensures every student experiences the part of the justice system that inspires them most.

At its core, Advocates for Change is about representation. The judiciary should reflect the society it serves, and this programme helps build that future by supporting students who may not otherwise have access to these professional networks. By opening doors, demystifying the judicial pathway, and fostering confidence, the programme empowers the next generation of legal thinkers and future judges.
