The Washing Machine Project was born after I saw my neighbour Divya in India hand-washing clothes for hours every day. It opened my eyes to the billions who still wash clothes by hand globally. Building a social enterprise from scratch hasn’t been easy — from funding challenges to scaling responsibly — but staying close to the people we serve has kept us grounded and focused.
