Your Journey

When I started medical school, I was struck by how unfit many hospital systems are for the future. We are facing an ageing population, rising demand, and growing administrative burdens that waste doctors’ time. It puzzled me that so few people seemed to be actively solving these problems. As I explored further, I realised it wasn’t a lack of innovation or ambition that held the system back, but the sheer difficulty of getting new solutions adopted within the NHS.

I saw healthtech companies forced to go backwards and redesign products because they hadn’t involved clinicians early enough. That led me to ask a simple question: if so many doctors want to shape innovation, and so many founders need their input, why are they not finding each other?

To test this, I surveyed 442 clinicians. Seventy-four percent said they didn’t know where to find opportunities in Medtech. That insight became the foundation for Orbion Connect, an AI-driven platform that helps companies find the exact clinical expertise they need to build better, more adoptable products.

The biggest challenge has been learning every aspect of running a startup while finishing medical school. My typical day now includes ward rounds in the morning, investor calls in the afternoon, and revision late into the night. It has been an intense but deeply rewarding journey that combines my two passions: medicine and innovation.

The Power of Community

Queen Mary has been a huge part of my development as an entrepreneur. When I first arrived, I didn’t see myself as someone who would one day build a company. But being surrounded by driven, creative students who were building projects of their own completely changed how I saw things. It made me realise that innovation isn’t something you wait to be invited into; it’s something you start by taking small steps and learning as you go.

Meeting peers who were unafraid to experiment, fail, and try again gave me the push I needed to pursue my own ideas. The Queen Mary community has been a place where I’ve been inspired, challenged, and supported in equal measure.

That environment has shaped how I think about entrepreneurship. It isn’t about doing things alone, but about building alongside others who share the same drive to make a difference. Everything I’ve worked on, including Orbion Connect, has been strengthened by that sense of shared purpose.
