Resources to Help Embedding an Inclusive Approach

Bullying and Harassment Support

Bullying & Harassment Managers Toolkit
This toolkit was created as part of our approach towards creating an inclusive culture where bullying, harassment and sexual harassment is eliminated and, when it does occur, is addressed effectively. It does this by providing:

• Clarity on managers’ responsibilities regarding bullying, harassment and sexual harassment
• Guidance to managers on how they can prevent and respond effectively to bullying, harassment and sexual harassment through:
- setting clear expectations
- encouraging recognition of bullying, harassment and sexual harassment
- addressing bullying, harassment and sexual harassment when an incident is raised

Disability Inclusion Guidance

Disability Inclusion in the Workplace Hub
This hub provides a dedicated space for Queen Mary staff to learn more about creating an Inclusive and Supportive Workplace for disabled staff. This could include whether you are looking for help navigating workplace adjustments, accessing wellbeing services, or connecting with others.
The hub has been created to be your go-to resource for practical guidance, support, and information on all aspects of disability inclusion in the workplace.

Equality Analysis

Equality analysis helps to ensure that the decisions and changes that are made across Queen Mary actively consider equality, diversity and inclusion.

Queen Mary has enhanced our approach to equality analysis, moving our focus away from compliance and towards a framework that supports colleagues to make the best decisions, in line with our aims and Values.
The newly created Equality Analysis Guidance was developed to support leaders and managers to embed equality analysis within their own governance processes and empower them to undertake their own equality analysis exercises. The guidance will support colleagues to determine what level of action is needed and how they might use the framework, whilst ensuring that equality analysis is embedded into the decision-making route or process they are following.

Inclusion Calendar

At Queen Mary, we mark and celebrate a number of equality, diversity and inclusion events throughout the year. Our Awareness and Inclusion Calendar contains some notable dates in the EDI calendar- printed versions are available from the EDI Team.

Our calendar visibility confirms Queen Mary’s commitment to creating an inclusive environment where colleagues feel a sense of belonging at our university. Managers are encouraged to engage with this resource and support promotion and visibility of both the calendar, and our programme of events that take place at Queen Mary to mark events across the calendar.

Race Equality Toolkit

Queen Mary’s Race Equality Toolkit has been developed to highlight the importance of promoting anti-racist practices and valuing cultural diversity. The toolkit is not prescriptive, but comprises a collection of ideas and good practice used by the University, Faculties, Schools and Professional Services Directorates within Queen Mary for advancing race equality.

Recruitment: Equal Merit Toolkit

The Equality Act allows us to use a form of positive action during the recruitment process referred to as ‘equal merit’. This enables us to ‘prefer’ candidates with a particular protected characteristic, over others without that characteristic who are deemed to be of equal merit.

Queen Mary’s Equal Merit Toolkit was developed to assist recruiting managers to ensure that this positive action is applied lawfully and effectively.
