In these pages we set out and discuss a number of the University's generous provisions on time off.

Annual leave

The University's arrangements for annual leave, bank holidays and closure days are available here.

Sabbatical leave

The University offers its Academic Staff generous Sabbatical leave; these pages give access to the Queen Mary policy and the application form.

Unpaid time off to train

In addition to the University's  own generous provisions on staff development, staff have a legal right to apply for time off for training under Section 63D of the Employment Rights Act. Staff are encouraged to use the University's own provisions for staff development rather than use the legal right, which is limited to unpaid time off. These pages include a number of tools to assist managers to respond lawfully to any “Section 63D” request that they do receive.
