Standardised job pack templates are available for various roles across the University. 

The templates contain information that has been agreed as the set standard for use throughout the University. 

You are advised not to save local copies of the job pack templates but instead to return to this page to ensure you have the most up-to-date version. You can do this by bookmarking this page.

Standard Job Pack Templates

To be used for Professional Services roles, and other roles not covered by the templates on this page.

Academic and Research Job Pack Templates

About the templates

The templates for Teaching and Research (T&R) and Teaching and Scholarship (T&S) academic roles and Postdoctoral Research Associates (PDRAs) have been created to ensure that the University is using consistent language across these job profiles; appropriately distinguishing between the different levels of roles.  The templates offer a set of descriptions increasing with levels of responsibility but are also sufficiently flexible to include specific requirements for individual posts. 

The templates include as standard:

  • Main duties for each level of role.
  • Specific responsibilities for research (PDRA), research and scholarship, student experience and education, leadership and collegiality, and public engagement and impact (T&R and T&S).
  • A standard set of essential criteria for each role. It is possible to add other requirements to the set of essential criteria that are specific to the needs of the role and appropriate to the level of the role.
  • A standard set of desirable criteria for each role. It is possible to add other desirable criteria that are specific to the needs of the role and appropriate to the level of the role.

How to use the templates

  • The job duties remain as stated in the template and cannot be altered.
  • School/Institute or discipline-specific requirements can be added to the person specification; however, the existing text cannot be removed or edited.
  • The job context for the role should be added.
  • If you are advertising the post at multiple levels, i.e. open rank at Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Reader, a job profile, including job description and person specification should be created for each role.
  • The essential and desirable criteria on the person specification are set and cannot be altered.

Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) Job Pack Template

This job pack can be used for Grade 4, Grade 5, or Grade 4 through Grade 5 PDRA roles. The job pack will need to be updated to reflect the level of role(s) required.

Academic Job Pack Templates

Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry Clinical Academic Job Pack Templates

To be used for Clinical Academic roles in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry in the same way as the academic templates above.
